How it works

We’re stoked to partner with you in achieving our vision for zero food waste to landfill in Aotearoa. Use these simple five steps to understand how our service works and how to get the most out of it.

 1. SEPARATE YOUR WASTE.

Like other waste streams, it’s important to get our systems for separation right. We have containers available, or source your own. These are located near where the waste is made, which is then transferred to the worm farm.

2. FEED YOUR WORMS.

Your worm farm can take up to 2 kilos of waste a day, depending on the health of the worms and their environment – just open the lid and put the waste on top. If you’re feeling really kind you can cover it with some newspaper or cardboard.

3. USE YOUR NUTRIENTS.

The drip tray will slowly fill with worm tea –
feel free to add this to nearby plants. Emptying the castings from the clip tray at the bottom is part of our service, please let us know if you’d like to keep them and we’ll set them aside for you. They make the best garden fertiliser.

4. LOVE OUR SERVICE.

We try to visit our worm farms every 3-6 weeks (seasonally variable). Our job is to nurture an optimal ecosystem for our worms (Eisenia fetida or Tiger Worms) - this involves working with the PH, moisture, temperature and oxygen levels until we get it right. If you are curious and would like to know more, feel free to ask our friendly team member when they drop in.

5. TELL YOUR FRIENDS.

Our service works successfully in homes, clubs, maraes and schools. If you know someone who would like to be part of this solution we’d love to support them.

GETTING SET UP

BOOKING IN

Set up occurs during one week of each month according to which region. There are some places around the motu (country) we do not service yet, or only visit every so often. Because of this, it may take a while to arrange your set up time. Sometimes this can come down to finding other subscribers in the same area, so we can reduce the associated emissions and avoid unnecessary inefficiencies. To help with this you can spread the word in your area.

YOUR FIRST VISIT

After arranging a time that suits us both, we will visit you to set up your worm farm(s), share the relevant info and signage and answer any questions to ensure you’re up and running. It’s not entirely critical that someone is there, as most of the info is included in this welcome doc - but we love people and it’s nice to put a face to the name.

AVAILABILITY

Due to high demand for our service, it’s possible that no worm farms are available. We are working on pre-selling the bulk of our subscriptions with set start dates so we know exactly how many to prepare (this takes up to 6 months and requires a lot of love and care).

INVOICING

Our service is invoiced at $25 + GST per month, in $75 + GST segments. Invoices are sent quarterly, with the amount invoiced at the beginning of the period. We send you the first invoice on the day we set you up, which put us in the clear for the next three months.

We pride ourselves on not having heavy handed contracts, however this three month turn around will mean that any cancellations before the end date will forfeit the remaining amount.
