How it works

Subscribing your household or workplace to a Worm Farm Membership contributes to achieving our vision for zero food waste to landfill in Aotearoa.

Use these simple five steps to understand how our service works and how to get the most out of it.

NOT A MEMBER YET?

  1. Check you live within our service areas.

  2. Go to our pricing page to view membership options for your households and workplace.

  3. Fill out the subscription form.

  4. We’ll be intouch to arrange set up. Invoicing begins once your set up.

 1. SEPARATE YOUR WASTE.

Like other waste streams, it’s important to get our systems for separation right. We have containers available on request, or source your own. These are best located near where the waste is made, which is then transferred to the worm farm.

2. FEED YOUR WORMS.

Your worm farm can take up to 2 kilos of waste a day, depending on the health of the worms and their environment – just open the lid and put the waste on top. If you’re feeling really kind you can cover it with some newspaper or cardboard.

To learn more read our What Goes In Your Worm Farm article.

For households, kids love feeding the worms. For workplaces, you might like to set up a roster, appoint a worm whisperer or write it into the cleaners contract.

3. USE YOUR NUTRIENTS.

The drip tray will slowly fill with worm leachate – feel free to add this to nearby plants.

Emptying the solid vermicast from worm farm is part of our service. If you’d like us to collect the vermicast for you, please provide a 20L bucket and we will place it in the bucket. Vermicast is the key ingredient in worm tea and makes the best garden fertiliser.

Learn how to use your vermicast in our Make Your Own Worm Tea article.

4. LOVE OUR SERVICE.

We visit our worm farms every 4-5 weeks (seasonally variable). Our job is to nurture an optimal ecosystem for our worms, this involves working with the PH, moisture, temperature and oxygen levels until we get it right.

If you are curious and would like to know more, feel free to ask our friendly team member when they drop in.

5. TELL YOUR FRIENDS.

Our service works successfully in households, workplaces, clubs, maraes and schools.

If you know someone who would like to be part of this solution we’d love to support them.
